Home Repair and Maintenance 101
We are extremely excited to introduce a brand-new offering to WorkbenchRVA, our Home Repair & Maintenance Program! Designed specifically for homeowners, this month-long course takes the guesswork out of home upkeep. Whether you want to handle everyday repairs yourself or gain the confidence to tackle beginner-friendly renovation projects, we’ll build your skills step-by-step.

This hands-on course covers the vital systems in your home. You’ll get real practice with locating wall studs, using levels, patching drywall, painting, laying wood and tile flooring, and understanding basic plumbing and electrical safety. Everything is taught in a realistic classroom setup, ensuring you learn in a safe, controlled environment.

By the end of the month, you’ll have the practical know-how to handle home projects independently and save thousands on future contractor bills. Class sizes are kept small to ensure every student receives personalized, hands-on instruction.

This program is designed for homeowners of all experience levels, this is not a contractor course. The lessons we will be learning in this class are basic skills only, nothing more. We take safety seriously and will not teach you anything that may harm you or your home.
Welcome to Home Repair and Maintenance 101

This program is engineered to help homeowners understand, repair, and maintain every major aspect of their living space. Over four weeks, students take a deep dive into the practical systems that keep a home running smoothly.

Core skills and hands-on topics include:

Structural & Surface Prep: Locating wall studs, using torpedo and box levels, mounting cabinets, hanging pictures, using drywall anchors and measuring for/installing window blinds.

Drywall & Finishes: Patching drywall damage, using a caulk gun, learning to paint clean sharp lines for walls and trim.

Flooring: Preparing surfaces and installing both tile and hardwood flooring.

Plumbing: Setting faucets, connecting water supply lines, and installing a residential toilet.

Electrical & Safety: Locating and assessing your main electrical panel, wiring ceiling fans, installing smoke detectors, and practicing ladder safety.

HVAC & Maintenance: Executing routine HVAC filter changes and standard household troubleshooting. Replacing door handles and locks.
